Basics

•  Arrange for a quiet place and time for studying and completing homework.

•  Record homework and projects in your student planner.

•  Come to school everyday and remain in classes.

•  Work with teachers after school when you need extra help.

•  Use progress reports and interims to monitor yourself.

•  Learn how to study for tests – see counselor or teacher for help in this skill

Regular Attendance is Necessary

•  Students missing 10% (5 days) of class time for unlawful reasons must receive a failing grade for the term.

•  Maryland Attendance law states that you must attend 94% of the school year to be satisfactory. This translates to no more than 2.5 days per quarter or 10 days absence per year.

•  Students missing as much as 20% of class time during the school year may not be eligible to earn credit in summer school.

Seek After School Help

•  We encourage you to talk with your teachers and find out what days they are available after school for help. It would benefit you to take advantage of these opportunities. Teachers can now be contacted by voice mail at (410) 391-3081. Please read the information below for activity bus guidelines.

Take Advantage of the School Activity Bus

•  Beginning in September, the After School Activity Bus will run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Those students who are staying for after school activities or tutoring may use the bus.

•  You may sign up to ride the bus following morning announcements in the main office. You need an activity bus pass in order to ride the bus.

•  The bus will depart KHS at 4:10 p.m. and will drop off students at Hawthorne, Chase, Essex, Oliver Beach and Seneca Elementary Schools. Also, students will be dropped off at Middle River Middle.

Use Progress Report Sheets

•  Progress sheets (daily and weekly) are available for you to use in monitoring your progress. If you wish to use them, please follow these directions.

•  Each Monday, pick up a new progress sheet from the counseling office.

•  Review the progress report each evening and discuss it with your parents.

•  Save the progress reports each week for your records.
