Mission

Our mission is to provide a library program that is central to the teaching and learning activities of the school. This means providing access of information at the time of need to individuals, small groups, and classes. The program seeks to ensure that students and staff are effective users of information by providing:

  • learning experiences that encourage students to become discriminating consumers and skilled creators of information
  • leadership, instruction, and consulting assistance in the use of instructional and information technology
  • resources and activities that contribute to lifelong learning

The library is open during lunch shifts as space permits.Lunch passes must be picked up in the library before period 1.

Policies

  • Book Circulation:
    • Students may borrow up to 3 books at one time
    • Collection materials are loaned for a period of 3 weeks; they may be renewed one time
    • Reference materials  may be borrowed one at a time for a period of one week
    • Due to student demand, literary reference books circulate overnight only and must be returned by 7:45 the next morning.
  • Fines:
    • Students will pay ten cents per day for each book or magazine that is returned late
    • Overnight books returned late have a fine of one dollar per day
    • Fines on reference materials are $.25 per day
    • Any materials not returned after four weeks will be considered lost and subject to assessment for replacement cost.
    • Outstanding fines and lost fees constitute student obligations that must be met in order to graduate or receive next year's schedule.
  • Copy Service:
    • A copy machine is available to students at a cost of 10 cents per page
  • Lunch and After School Use:
    • Library is open during lunch, space permitted
    • Students are required to get a lunch pass in the morning and sign-in when visiting during lunch
    • Students are required to sign-in and sign out when using the library after school
    • Sign-ins are not permitted 10 minutes after the lunch period has started or after 2:30 pm for afternoon library use.
  • Individual/Small Group Use of Library:
    • Students must have a signed pass from their teacher in order to visit during the day

Computer Use:

  • All library computers have Internet access.  They are available for educational purposes.  All users are expected to adhere to BCPS Telecommunications Policy
  • Students may wish to bring a PC formatted computer disk or USB "key drive" to library in order to save work in progress.
  • All Library and lab computers have Microsoft Office  (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, and FrontPage) 
  • Files created using any other application will need to be saved in  rich text format (.rtf) to be readable on library computers
